What is the NSW Seniors Festival?
The NSW Seniors Festival is an annual event that spans 2 weeks during March to celebrate and recognise seniors in the community. This year, 2025, it will run from the 3rd to the 16th of March with the theme ‘Time to shine’.
The festival is filled with free and discounted activities, events and programs for seniors aimed at fostering connections and improving wellbeing of older adults. It promotes healthy ageing, social and community connections, learning new skills and educational activities.
Many cities and councils hold a number of large and engaging events that cater to seniors in their community.
Our plans…
The ActiveStrongerBetter program was fortunate to receive a small grant to hold a number of events for the NSW Seniors Festival throughout the Hunter Region. We will be hosting 6 free Healthy Ageing and Exercise workshops including talks from health professionals, exercise class demonstrations from our amazing ASB Leaders and time for questions and connecting with each other. Light refreshments will also be provided at each session.
The topic of talk given by the health professional will vary dependant on the background, experience and field of each health professional but will be focused on healthy ageing and/or exercise.
One of our workshops, in Dungog, will be part of local community and aged care service provider Neighbourcare’s Golden Gathering event. A senior’s expo with stalls, exhibits and talks from 9am-3pm.
Also, as part of the NSW Seniors Festival the ASB team will also be attending and providing an exercise demonstration at the Newcastle Seniors Festival Expo at the Hunter stadium at Broadmeadow on Tuesday 4th March 2025. As well as a couple of other events in the Hunter Region which are listed below…

ASB Events
Each event will include a 2-hour session for guests including:
- An informational talk about the ASB program and how it benefits seniors (10-15mins)
- A talk from a local health professional/s on a relevant health topic (20-30mins)
- An exercise class demonstration from a local ASB Leader (20-30mins)
- Refreshments and Q&A + information displays including exercise class info and healthy ageing resources (30-45mins)

The Newcastle City Council NSW Seniors Festival Full Program:
Newcastle (Hunter Multicultural Communities – HMC)
HMC is hosting a Seniors Celebration Day during NSW Seniors Festival with dance performances, morning tea, discounted 3 course meals, workshops, live music and information stalls. ASB will be at the event providing information and answering any questions about healthy ageing, exercise and accessing exercise in our community.

Gillieston Heights (NovaCare Seniors Festival Day)
NovaCare will be holding a Seniors Festival celebration, a free community event, at their social centre in Gillieston Heights including food, music, games and laughter. ASB will be there to join the fun! Event is free and for any one 65 or over in the community.
