ASB team managers, Natasha and Deborah took a trip to Sydney last Thursday for the Australia-NZ Future of Ageing awards night which showcases innovation and excellence in aged care services. ActiveStrongerBetter was shortlisted as a finalist in the Health and Wellbeing category with a strong field of amazing programs and organisations all focussed on improving the health and wellbeing of our ageing population.

Unfortunately, ASB did not take home the win, but Deb and Tash said it was an honour to be selected as finalists alongside such a strong field. They were grateful to be part of the event, having the opportunity to meet many inspiring people and organisations that are all doing amazing things in the healthy ageing space.
ASB would like to extend congratulations to all the winners for the night and to GreenConnect who won the Health and Well-being category for their innovative project using outdoor green spaces to help dementia patients. To read all the about the winners view the Inside Ageing’s Article.

The ActiveStrongerBetter program has grown an unbelievable amount in the last two years and achieved so many goals! With over 60 exercise classes for seniors in Newcastle and the Hunter Region now listed with the program, more than 20 fitness professionals in the region have completed our leader training and majority of these fitness leaders have come onboard as ASB Leaders and are providing community exercise to older adults. The team is so proud of how far we have already come, and we are only just taking off, with so many plans for the future!

We are also super excited for the upcoming awards night for AUSactive (Fitness Industry’s peak body) in October where the program has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Social Value and Community Impact Award!
